Worship
Worship at St John’s is within the Modern or Liberal Catholic tradition of the Church of England. In practice this means:
- Our services use the authorised modern liturgies available in the Church of England series Common Worship rather than those of the traditional Book of Common Prayer.
- The priest, ministers and lay assistants that help lead our worship wear robes and the priest wears vestments for Holy Communion services.
- Holy Communion (also known as the Eucharist) is a very important part of our regular worship as it is through the sharing of bread and wine as a Christian Community that we become more fully aware of the presence of Christ within and amongst us.
- Silence as well as music is important to us in our worship, as is art as well as words.
- Our worship and especially our prayer is enhanced through the burning of incense at special times of year especially at Christmas and Easter.
- As a community of Christians we seek to celebrate the differences God has given us as part of His rainbow creation. As a result we strive to be an inclusive community of Christians irrespective of gender, ethnicity, disability, age, socio-economic status, nationality or sexuality.
