Brownies

4^th Hucknall Brownies meet at St. John’s Church Community Hall on Wednesdays during term time 5:30pm-7.00p.m. Brownies is the section of Girlguiding UK and is for girls aged 7 to 10 years.

Brownies do it all! Our meetings are full of challenges, arts and crafts, energetic games and a wide range of other activities. We extend our knowledge and abilities by working towards badges. We take part in special events with other members in Hucknall and Nottinghamshire go on day trips, sleepovers and holidays. We enjoy taking part in community action projects, fundraising for our unit and other charities and are actively involved in the life of St. Johns Church.

When a girl starts Brownies, she will join a group called a Six. This gives her a ready-made circle of friends. We regularly work in these small groups as well as doing activities as a whole pack and working as individuals.

The Brownie activity programme is called The Brownie Adventure and has three areas:

You: Brownies develop confidence and self-esteem through having new experiences and learning new skills. They build friendships and learn to share and cooperate with others by working together in small groups called ‘Sixes’. They get a say in what happens at Brownies through discussions or ‘Pow-wows’, which help them develop decision-making skills and the ability to put their views across.

Community: We encourage girls to become active citizens by helping them understand and participate in their communities. This could mean raising money for charities or visiting local places of interest.

World: Our programme encourages girls to learn about the wider world. Activities could involve celebrating a festival from a different culture, finding out about endangered animal species, or learning how they can combat climate change.
