3 Wise Women Quiz Night

Three wise men? No! It was three wise women!

Quiz night at St John’s Church is sell-out success

Saturday night (7th Jan) saw the first social event of the year for St John’s Church on Nottingham Road, a Quiz Night with a twist! Not content with having just one quizmaster, St John’s launched their ‘Three Wise Women’ – Chris, Kathy and Pauline. The trio carefully planned the whole evening, presented all the questions and organised the prizes and an impressive raffle too.

The evening comprised questions on subjects ranging from spring flowering plants to the number of sprouts consumed on that famous episode of The Vicar of Dibley. The ‘Team Challenge’ was to dress one team member as a wise man or woman using just a pile of old newspapers and some sticky tape – the results were stunning! Piping hot fish & chips were provided from Zac’s Fish Bar up the road.

“It’s the first time we’ve done something like this, I was quite nervous beforehand,” said Pauline, “but now I can’t wait until the next quiz night – I loved every minute!”. Chris and Kathy agreed with her –they are all keen to get question-setting and putting another date in the diary!

St John’s Vicar, Rev David Ford, was delighted: “We’d advertised the event within our congregation and also locally.  Linby and Papplewick churches fielded teams, as did Kings Family Church.  Broomhill Junior School fielded a staff team. The other Hucknall Team churches – St Mary’s and St Peter & St Paul – were also represented. Ticket sales were a runaway success, and we quickly sold all 75 tickets! Sadly, teams from Holy Cross and Crossroads Church were too late.”

For those quiz teams who missed out on tickets this time, please don’t despair  – Hall Bookings Secretary Liz Ford (Rev David’s wife) will be in touch to offer a ‘first chance’  to the next quiz night before the tickets go on public sale. The organisers would like to thank everyone who participated and helped such an enjoyable evening to run so smoothly.
